悲劇維度是英國作家托馬斯·哈代小說最重要的維度之一。對于主人公悲劇根源的探索有助于研究哈代小說的思想內(nèi)涵及其歷史意義。哈代小說主人公的悲劇根源（即他們的災(zāi)難性結(jié)局的根源）可以從文化角度來闡釋。在雷蒙·威廉斯文化唯物主義理論的基礎(chǔ)上，個體性文化體系的合度與失度之闡釋框架可以發(fā)展出來，用于托馬斯·哈代小說主人公悲劇根源的研究。在一定意義上，個體性文化體系的失度（簡稱為文化失度）導(dǎo)致了小說主人公的災(zāi)難性結(jié)局。該專著從個體性文化體系的失度的視角研究哈代悲劇，可以對現(xiàn)代性發(fā)展過程中的道德、性格、身份和價值觀等諸多維度給予闡釋。
劉磊，男，1982年出生，中國民航大學(xué)外國語學(xué)院副教授，上海外國語大學(xué)英語語言文學(xué)專業(yè)博士。主要研究方向為英美文學(xué)與文學(xué)理論。近年主要學(xué)術(shù)論著：《英美文學(xué)中人文情結(jié)的嬗變》；《美國“垮掉派”詩歌研究——認(rèn)知詩學(xué)視閾》[第二作者]。現(xiàn)階段主講或曾經(jīng)主講“大學(xué)英語”、“高級英語”、“中西文化比較”、“基礎(chǔ)英語寫作與交流”（博士生公共英語）等課程。
