全書共分為八個(gè)部分(PART),每個(gè)部分含若干個(gè)單元(Unit),共42個(gè)單元。每個(gè)單元由一篇課文和一篇閱讀材料組成,共計(jì)84篇。其中第一部分(1~4單元)介紹環(huán)境、環(huán)境科學(xué)與工程概述和歷史;第二部分(5~11單元)介紹大氣化學(xué)和空氣污染及其防治;第三部分(12~19單元)介紹水污染來源種類、水化學(xué)、各種污水處理技術(shù)、處理單元設(shè)備等;第四部分(20~23單元)為固體廢物及處理方法;第五部分(24~27單元)介紹噪聲污染與控制、全球氣候變化、土壤污染與腐蝕、熱污染等其他污染及控制技術(shù);第六部分(28~35單元)為環(huán)境管理與政策,包括介紹環(huán)境影響及其評價(jià)、環(huán)境監(jiān)控和分析及采樣程序、環(huán)境政策與策略、環(huán)境風(fēng)險(xiǎn)評價(jià)、毒素和食品安全;第七部分(36~38單元)為生態(tài)系統(tǒng)與生態(tài)群落,介紹環(huán)境生物與生態(tài)圈,環(huán)境生態(tài)學(xué),生態(tài)與生命系統(tǒng)與生物多樣性等;第八部分(39~42單元)介紹環(huán)境可持續(xù)發(fā)展,綠色化學(xué)與技術(shù),清潔生產(chǎn),清潔生產(chǎn)工藝及其綠色化學(xué)過程。每篇課文均配有與課文相對應(yīng)的練習(xí),主要以主觀練習(xí)題為主,包括閱讀與詞匯練習(xí),英譯漢與漢譯英,用英語回答問題及寫出課文或某一段落的小結(jié)(summary)等。為便于學(xué)生自學(xué),本書每課配有單詞和詞組表,并對課文的難點(diǎn)作必要的注釋,全書最后附有總詞匯表。
