《西方人文傳統(tǒng)研究(500-1800)》主要研究15世紀(jì)到18世紀(jì)西方創(chuàng)造性的文化遺產(chǎn)(人文科學(xué)humanlities),包括文學(xué)、哲學(xué)、歷史、視覺藝術(shù)等。所選思想內(nèi)容和藝術(shù)作品主要根據(jù)兩個(gè)原則:一是它們必須代表它們所處時(shí)代的精神和價(jià)值觀,從某種角度上看也能代表永恒的價(jià)值觀(如達(dá)·芬奇的作品代表了當(dāng)時(shí)人們探索宇宙運(yùn)轉(zhuǎn)規(guī)律的決心,同時(shí)也代表人類永恒的價(jià)值觀);二是這些思想和作品要能對中國的文化發(fā)展具有啟發(fā)性。研究西方創(chuàng)造性文化遺產(chǎn)就是與西方一些偉大的思想家和藝術(shù)家的對話,研究他們的思想價(jià)值觀,然后用他們的價(jià)值觀來對照、比較我們的價(jià)值觀,從而擴(kuò)大我們的文化視野。這種對話也是一種個(gè)人享受,得到多大的享受取決于我們的好奇心和耐心。就像永恒的友誼需要耐心、需要培養(yǎng)一樣,我們需要耐心和好奇心才能理解他們的思想和作品。了解這些偉大的思想家和藝術(shù)家是沒有捷徑的。本書擬從文本、與文本有關(guān)的各種文化背景及含義三個(gè)方面展開研究。
